Client: Queens’ School
Main Contractor: ASHE Group
Duration: 30 weeks

When The Queens’ School needed major roofing works on its North Campus, the ASHE Group was appointed to carry out the project. The job involved a complete overhaul of the pitched roof coverings, with additional work to improve insulation, protect against water ingress, and upgrade key structural elements. AMA Scaffolding was brought in to provide the essential scaffolding support needed to deliver the project safely, efficiently, and within the 30-week timeframe.
The works involved the removal and replacement of the existing pitched roof coverings, along with the installation of new underlay to maintain insulation performance and weather resistance. Structural improvements were made through the replacement of roof battens, which are critical to the overall stability of the roofing system. Leadwork detailing, flat roof refurbishment, and other associated works were also carried out to ensure the school’s roofing system was robust, watertight, and built to last.
AMA Scaffolding’s role was to create a tailored access solution that would allow roofing teams to work safely at height, handle materials efficiently, and complete each phase of the project without delays. We designed and installed a full perimeter scaffold to provide secure working platforms across all elevations.
As the school remained operational throughout the project, safety and minimal disruption were key priorities. AMA Scaffolding coordinated closely with the ASHE Group and the school to plan scaffold erection and adaptations around daily activities, ensuring pupil and staff safety at all times. Protective measures such as debris netting, exclusion zones, and controlled access points were implemented to safeguard the school community and prevent any unauthorised access to work areas.
Over the course of the 30-week programme, our team provided ongoing site support, adapting scaffold configurations to match the progress of the roofing works. This included adjusting platform heights, creating new access points, and maintaining safe material handling routes. By responding quickly to changes in site requirements, we ensured the roofing team could maintain productivity and meet project deadlines.
The project was completed in March 2023, delivering a fully refurbished roofing system with improved insulation, enhanced weather protection, and a longer lifespan. AMA Scaffolding’s contribution was essential in enabling the ASHE Group to carry out these works efficiently while maintaining the highest safety standards.
This project highlights AMA Scaffolding’s expertise in supporting large-scale roofing works within live school environments, providing safe, adaptable, and compliant scaffolding solutions that allow contractors to deliver quality results with minimal disruption.
