Project Overview
AMA Scaffolding was commissioned by PAYE Stonework, a leading stonework and restoration contractor across London and the South East, to provide access scaffolding for the full restoration of the exterior stonework at a property on George Street, Croydon. The project required precision planning and expert execution due to the site’s location directly alongside the TFL Tram line.
The Challenge
This central Croydon location presented several key challenges, including close proximity to active tram lines and high pedestrian footfall during the day. Strict safety protocols and coordination with local authorities were essential. To minimise disruption, all erection works were scheduled to take place between 11pm and 5am, when traffic and public movement were at their lowest levels.
Our Solution
AMA Scaffolding supplied and erected a bespoke scaffold structure designed to provide safe and stable access for PAYE’s restoration specialists. The system incorporated:
- Scaffolding: Full access scaffold designed around tramway restrictions
- Screen Hoardings: Installed to protect the public and maintain site security
- Shrink Wrap: Fully enclosed wrapping to contain dust and debris while maintaining a professional site appearance
The nighttime build schedule required careful logistical planning, ensuring that materials and workforce were on-site and ready for each limited working window. Communication between teams was vital, and the project ran smoothly from start to finish.
The Outcome
The scaffolding was erected safely and efficiently within the agreed hours, allowing PAYE Stonework to proceed with restoration works without delay. The dismantling will also follow the same night-time schedule to maintain minimal disruption. The project was delivered on time and on budget, with a total hire period of 12 weeks.
