Project Overview
When a large concrete block fell from the façade of the Cash Converters store on George Street in central Croydon, urgent action was required. The area experiences heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic throughout the day, so ensuring public safety and preventing further damage became an immediate priority. AMA Scaffolding was contacted to deliver a full emergency scaffolding solution — and the entire project was completed within 48 hours of instruction.
The Challenge
This emergency took place on one of Croydon’s busiest retail streets, with constant footfall and vehicle movement throughout the day. The falling debris created a serious safety risk for both pedestrians and passing traffic, demanding immediate containment and secure access for structural repair teams. Key challenges included:
- Managing safety in a high-footfall, central location
- Working efficiently within restricted space and time constraints
- Carrying out installation during off-peak hours to minimise disruption
- Ensuring full containment to prevent further debris hazards
Our Solution
AMA Scaffolding’s emergency response team was mobilised immediately, and work began that same evening to keep disruption to a minimum. A robust protection gantry was erected to safeguard pedestrians and the shopfront below, while an independent access scaffold was installed to allow engineers and contractors to safely carry out remedial works to the affected façade.
To enhance safety and containment, the entire scaffold was shrink-wrapped, effectively sealing the work zone and preventing loose materials from falling onto the pavement. AMA also incorporated branded sheeting for Cash Converters, improving site presentation and providing ongoing marketing visibility for the client while the works were underway.
Working overnight ensured safer conditions for both the public and the workforce, while keeping traffic and pedestrian disruption to an absolute minimum.
The Outcome
Within just 48 hours of instruction, AMA Scaffolding successfully completed the full design, delivery, and erection of the emergency scaffold system. The completed structure enabled safe access for urgent repairs and secured the surrounding area for public protection.
Results achieved included:
- Full pedestrian protection in a busy retail zone
- Safe access for repair and inspection teams
- Minimal disruption to local trade and traffic
- A clean, professional appearance with branded shrink wrap

This emergency project highlights AMA Scaffolding’s rapid response capability and commitment to safety excellence. By delivering a fully compliant and secure solution within 48 hours, AMA ensured the safety of both the public and contractors — allowing essential repairs to begin without delay.
